Speto's grafitti art: from São Paulo to Miami's Primary Flight

I've been a longtime fan of many of São Paulo's great grafitti artists, of which Speto is my favourite. 

After years of not seeing him, we ran into each other at Cavalera's fashion show, which was held at the Estação da Luz, a gorgeous old train station in São Paulo's Centro (Old Downtown).

That was enough excuse for me to write up a little post on him, so I could share some of his favourite work with you (photos below were taken from Speto's Flickr feed).

At the last Art Basel Miami, Speto's gallerist Baixo Ribeiro, who owns Choque Cultural gallery, accompanied him as Speto worked on his first work for  Primary Flight - an open-air museum. 

The work, pictured below, will be on show until the next editon of the art fair, in December.

Brazilian street art: the creative genius of Carlos Dias

Sad for those who missed it, but Brazil's most important museum, the MASP in São Paulo, had a great street art exhibition on, which ended early February. I went and instantly fell in love with the work of Carlos Dias, which reminded me of that other great street artist I've always loved: Basquiat. Check it out:

Osgemeos, Brazil's most famous grafitti artists, open show in Rio

Great art show on in Rio. It's called Vertigem, and is the first exhibition to contain, exclusively, works by twin brothers Gustavo and Otávio Pandolfo, a.k.a. osgemeos. The show is at CCBB Rio de Janeiro, and contains painting, sculptures, sound objects that can be played by the public and an oversize mural.

The famous yellow-skinned characters with eyes set wide apart that inhabit their art are instantly recognizeable and at once quaint and oddly disturbing. I just love their colorful, off-kilter look.
